Anthrax’s Scott Ian has never been shy about it: AC/DC with Bon Scott is his favourite band of all time. In the third episode of the Bon Scott Estate Interview Project, he tells us exactly why.
Scott first heard Bon’s voice on Powerage, in a junior high school lunchroom in Queens, New York. One listen to “Rock ‘n’ Roll Damnation” and he was hooked for life.
For Scott, Bon was different from all the rock ‘n’ roll that came before him. He talks about Bon’s unmistakable voice and his storytelling: lyrics that felt real and grounded, never cheesy, like true tales from someone who had lived them. That honesty fascinated him as a teenager and still does.
Scott also reflects on the influence Bon-era AC/DC had on Anthrax, and on one of his biggest regrets: missing the chance to see Bon live on the Highway to Hell tour.
The Bon Scott Estate Interview Project celebrates Bon’s life, music and legacy in his 80th year, through the stories of the people who knew him, worked alongside him and were inspired by him. Scott Ian follows Sammy Hagar and Rick Springfield.
